From Marathons to Bike Races!

October 30

The race season is definitely moving past most athletes at this time of the year, but there are a few Torden athletes looking to have some fun and try new things!

Carlos Martinez has had a great and consistent season, whether it be on the duathlon circuit or Gran Fondo circuit in Mexico. This past weekend, we added another Gran Fondo to the calendar to let him test his fitness and Carlos did all he could to whittle down the field and win solo, but in the end had to settle for 3rd position in the final sprint. I'd much rather have an athlete have fun, and try his best to win the race, and not just be a passenger all day. Well done, Carlos! Another fine result.

Fabian Kral is fairly new to the squad, having just joined in August. After a multisport event, we turned our focus to setting a marathon PB in the Fall. The Frankfurt Marathon is a flat-ish course, but is often affected by wind between the skyscrapers and in the town. This year was no different as a strong wind from the back in the first 1/2 marathon slowed down times in the 2nd. Fabian did a great job listening to coaches instructions to negative split his race by time or effort. When he crossed the finish line, we barely missed our goal mark to break 3:20 and he was able complete a 30sec negative split on the race course. Have the courage to race your own race and don't get caught up in others leads to good days! Brilliant.

Sean Laude took out his cyclocross bike and made the short trip over to New Jersey to compete in his first CX race this weekend. While quickly learning that East Coast CX is often very muddy, Sean adapted and had a fun day working on some bike handling skills! It's always good to hear that an athlete feels better when they come out of a new challenge. Perhaps we throw in a couple more the Fall!
